T-REX downloads

The T-rex project was a lot of fun and A LOT of hard work. I really had no reason to do the project except for the experience of learning how to use Maya by actually using it. Many things went wrong and I didn't get everything to work the way I wanted it to but, all in all, I still think it was a good effort and I think I learned a lot. Nothing about this project is "perfect". Far from it. If I had to do it over again, I would do almost everything a little differently than I did this time but, such is life when you're learning something like Maya.

I decided at the beginning that I would share everything about this project with anyone who wanted to know how I did it. The following downloads are for everyone to do with what ever you would like. The OBJ files should work with any 3D program that can import OBJ files. The "complete package" file is an MB file created with Maya 6.5. It will not work with Maya 6.0 unless you know how to convert the file.

Enjoy!

This is the low resolution half model. You could download this file then mirror it, stitch it together and presto! You have your own complete model in no time. This one is perfect if you want to do some remodeling!

Half Model .OBJ 475K

This is the complete full resolution model. It started as a low resolution half model (like the one above). I then converted it to SubDs then converted it back to polys by using the adaptive switch. The UVs for this model work with the texture and bump map provided below.

Here is the lower pallet model w/tongue. You'll have to paint it yourself.

Upper Pallet Model. You'll have to paint it yourself.

This is the 2000x2000 pixel texture map that can be used with the Full model above or the "complete package" (below).

This file contains the entire Bump map for the T-rex. Go ahead and experiment with it! When I used it, I set the Bump Depth to "0.120"

This is the WHOLE PACKAGE!! With this one you get the model, the complete rigging, display layers, painted skin weights, painted eyes, teeth and gums (download the texture and bump maps above for the rex's skin). You need to have some understanding of rigging, groups, and clusters to understand some of what I did with the rigging. If you have any questions, drop me an Email and I'll try to explain why I did what I did. I also suggest that you watch the rigging video to gain a basic understanding of how to use the rig. Some of the neck rigging is different from the video and you will discover that the shoulder joints produce weird results but I'll leave that for you to fix.. Click here to watch rig video. One important tip: I set up 3 groups to control each foot. Look at the hierarchy for each foot and you will see the groups. When animating, you should set up keyframes for the groups, not for the actual joints beneath the groups. You will get strange results if you try to animate the feet with a mixture of group keys and joint keys. If you don't know what I'm talking about then don't worry about it. depending on what you're doing, it might not matter. If it does, believe me, you'll know..
